Chris was born and raised in Liverpool where he became interested in acting from a young age. He attended Brian Timoney's Method Acting School, completing his course in 2014. On graduating he was immediately cast in Theatre in the Rough's production "Waterloo". Since then he has been seen in ITV's Houdini & Doyle and starred in the critically acclaimed short Lynchpin. Chris then embarked on his first UK Tour appearing in the brand new musical "The Return of Neverland" as Smee.

Chris always dreamed of writing his own play and performing it with his classmates whilst training. This led to him founding The Courtyard Players and to creating our first play Jumping the Barriers for the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. in 2018 Chris returned to write in star in our second play Pub Quiz at that year's Liverpool Fringe Festival. This was also his directorial debut.

In 2019, as well as acting as Producer, Writer and starring in both 'Jumping the Barriers' and 'What Are You Wearing?', Chris took up the directorial reigns for a second time co-directing the latter with Josephine Sherlock.

During lockdown Chris has kept his acting going starring in Grin Theatre's "Something Different". Currently he is rehearsing for our two  productions "Get Help" and "The Brain Trust"

Adam J S Smith

Adam had always wanted to write and perform in his own play with his friends and fellow students. In order to register for the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he needed a production name. Training at the Courtyard Theatre at the time, Adam wrote down "The Courtyard Players" and the rest is history. Co-writing and starring in our first run of "Jumping the Barriers", Adam brought the character of James to life for the very first time.

Since then Adam's been very active across both stage and screen. Recently he's switched to behind the camera, deciding to take on his directorial debut with the Courtyard Players film "Get Help"

Mike Armagon

Before becoming an actor Mike had a successful career as a broadcast journalist. Working for the likes of Sky, ITV and the BBC he has reported on some of the biggest stories in news and sport for more than a decade. After deciding a change of direction was needed he trained at the Brian Timoney Actors Studio and within a few months of graduating secured a role in one of the nation's biggest soaps: Emmerdale. He also works extensively in the corporate sector as well as roles in theatre and film. Mike still maintains an interest in the world of broadcasting and can occasionally be seen presenting or found behind the camera working as a TV producer. Consequently he is a highly proficient script editor and is hoping to spend more time focussing on writing his own material.

Having trained with Chris Daley and Adam J S Smith at Brian Timoney's Method Studio, Mike helped form The Courtyard Players back in 2016, providing a pivotal role of helping produce the show and also playing the part of "The Stranger" for our 2016 run of "Jumping the Barriers". Mike is now back with us for our two new short films "Get Help" and "Brain Trust"

Amelia Gillen
Amelia Gillen

Amelia started acting in her local amateur theatre company when she was eleven years old. Finding a love for acting early on she then went on to train at the London College of music, studying musical theatre. Her proudest acting achievement so far is playing Iris in a touring production of Find the Lady, which was an adaption of Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes.

Amelia first worked with The Courtyard Players back in 2018 on Pub Quiz. We were then very keen to bring her back for both performances the following year. Travelling from Scarborough on a weekly basis for rehearsals, she's really showed how much she is dedicated to her craft.

Doing two shows in one week is always a challenge and whilst Amelia provided a vital role of The Stranger in Jumping the Barriers, watching her bring the part of Mel Inn What Are You Wearing? to life was truly brilliant to watch. One of the best compliments an actor can get is when the writers create with them on mind because they embody the character so well. Amelia has done that and then some and we can't imagine anybody else playing Mel

Josephine Sherlock

Josephine Sherlock trained at the London College of Music before starting up her own Production Company, Make Believe Productions. Using this she wrote and starred in her first brand new Musical The Return of Neverland in 2015. Since then she has a number of credits on both stage and screen including:
5,6,7,8 The Steps Experience (UK Tour, Strictly Theatre, Lisa Scott-Lee)
The Night We Met (Short Film, Sicinfit Productions, Victoria),
Paw Patrol live: No.1 UK Arena Tour (UK Tour, Life Like Touring, Marshall),
Let it Snow (UK Tour, Partytime Productions, Actor)
Aladdin (UK Tour, Trio Productions, The Slave of the Ring)

Josephine Sherlock first worked with the Courtyard Players on our second production - Pub Quiz. Always being a fan of Jo's work, the chance to work together again was very important to us this year. On reading Jumping The Barriers Jo was thrilled to take the reigns and direct the playAs well as creating writing and directing our brand new show What Are You Wearing?, she was nominated at the Liverpool Fringe Awards for Best Female Performance for her role of Rose

Laurence Rowley

Laurence was born and raised in Stockport, he attended Aquinas college where he discovered a love for acting when he applied for Performing Arts. During his training he took part in plays such as Romeo and Juliet and Joseph and the amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. He then went on to Study HND media performance at Salford University when he was involved in a number of different film projects.

Laurence went gone above and beyond in his approach to our shows. He travelled from Stockport to rehearse whenever it was necessary. No time was too late or too early. In What Are You Wearing? he has played nine characters and then taking centre stage as James in Jumping The Barriers, virtually not leaving the stage at all in the latter. We were so lucky to find Laurence and his dedication and to helping us bring these shows to life was been amazing

Luke Morgan

Luke caught the acting bug at the age of 13 and started performing with Lochside Theatre in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. He has done a lot of theatre work since then including a number of festivals and working behind the scenes as a stage manager. He has now moved on to filming work and has done short films, music videos and had a lead role in Saving Grace, a feature film released in 2018 to critical acclaim. More recently Luke has been seen in Succour Punch Theatre's "Hello Bojo" in the title role and has been working with them again in lockdown.

Luke first worked with The Courtyard Players on their second production, Pub Quiz. Luke brought depth and a real sense of frustration to the character of David, the estranged member of the team bringing his new girlfriend Danni into the mix of his old friends, including his ex Lucy. Luke was incredibly committed and we had a great time working with him.
